Steve is a valued firm resource on accounting and financial reporting matters, especially in the area of mergers and acquisitions. He offers special skills in the areas of business combinations, SEC filings, revenue recognition and stock compensation.
Experience
As an independent consultant, Steve recently worked with both target and parent companies in a $2.5 billion acquisition, where he handled project management, integration and technical accounting. This project involved complex valuation of intangibles like intellectual property research and development, technology, customer relations, trademarks and goodwill.
In 2010, Steve retired from a 35-year career with financial services firm KPMG. He was partner in charge of audit, with full responsibility for 200 professionals as well as profit and loss in the firm’s Minneapolis and Des Moines offices. He also served as partner in charge of the firm’s SEC and technical accounting practice in those two cities.
At KPMG, Steve served as lead audit partner for clients like Cargill (the largest private company in the United States), Toro, Tennant, Fastenal, DataCard, Computer Network Technology, International Multifoods, Land O’Lakes, CNS and Hawkins. He brings this vast experience to bear on Cordes & Company engagements.
Education
Steve holds an undergraduate degree in accounting (with high distinction) and a graduate degree in business taxation from the University of Minnesota.
